Biography, selected career highlights, and distinctions.

Jovana Filipović Ćalić is a soprano and composer based in Novi Sad. She completed both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in composition at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, where she is currently studying solo singing in class of Željko Lučić, baritone. Since 2021, she has been a member of the Opera Choir of the Serbian National Theatre, joining the ensemble as a permanent member in 2023. She is also a member of the Serbian National Theatre’s “Vojislav Soldatović” Opera Studio, through which she made her solo debut at the theatre as Sara in Mihovil Logar’s comic opera “Pokondirena tikva”. She made her international operatic debut in Berlin in 2025, performing the role of Valletto in Monteverdi’s “L’incoronazione di Poppea” as part of the Berlin Opera Academy. She subsequently made her Croatian operatic debut as Mutter in Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel”, singing the premiere performance as part of the Croatian Opera Academy. This engagement further expanded her international stage experience and operatic repertoire. Jovana also performs with the Visoko C Artists’ Association in opera productions for children at the Serbian National Theatre and Madlenianum Opera & Theatre. Jovana has been selected several times to represent Serbia in the World Youth Choir, performing across Europe, China, and Canada. Through its international tours and festivals, she has collaborated with numerous renowned conductors. In 2024, she took part in a masterclass and performed with Jacob Collier at the HarbourVOICES festival in Canada. Her compositions have been performed at concerts and festivals throughout Serbia, including Piano City Novi Sad, A-Fest, Festival Isidor Bajić, and Obzorja na Tisi. She received First Prize for her piano composition Bura osećanja (Storm of Emotions) at the Isidor Bajić Festival, as well as First Prize and the title of laureate for her art song Prolećna (Spring Song) at the Obzorja na Tisi composition competition. At the same competition in 2024, her art song Tvoje ruke (Your Hands), composed to her own text, received Second Prize and the Audience Award. She has received numerous awards and scholarships in recognition of her artistic development and academic achievements, including the Dositeja Scholarship awarded by the Young Talents Fund of the Republic of Serbia and three scholarships from the Melanija Bugarinović Fund for the Advancement of Young Vocal Artists.
